College life

Sketchbook stuff. I'm in a glass blowing class so hopefully I can start posting stuff from there soon O.O I'm so excited!!! But for now here is pen and paper and gouache and popcorn bags and color pencil ;)

Really funny story. Short version we were waiting for a thing and weren't told what it was. Turns out it was a vemma thing. And they were... interesting :P

Popcorn. Gouache on popcorn bag in sketchbook. The bag is from the warm bodies showing the other day.

I'm a TA for ani 12. It's fun watching the freshman react to John ^_^

Figure Drawing

Some pages of my figure drawing practice. Sorry for the quality, I've been using my old animation paper and it won't fit in my scanner.

I've been using
http://www.quickposes.com/pages/challenges
and
http://artists.pixelovely.com/practice-tools/figure-drawing/

I love the automatic timer and how easy they are to use ^_^

Back at school

Sorry it's been a while since I posted, moving and started school have been overwhelming :) It's really great to be back and see all my friends, in addition to making new ones ^_^

Mustard and Nail Polish

The mustard was yesterday. The nail polish.... Started after midnight so I guess I did it today? I'm confused...

Mustard. I kind of liked the graphicness of it so I didn't add the shadow.

Nail polish. I'm reflected in the top, green shirt :)

Tomato

Tomato on construction paper on a shiny box. I have a window next to where I paint, and during the day it provides a secondary light source. Usually I leave it out, but I thought I'd give it a shot today. The twisty leaf stem things were a lot of fun, especially matching the shadows to them :) Done yesterday, gouache.

Blueberries

I painted blueberries yesterday. They are all different berries. Because when I finished one I ate it. Yes I am a berry killer. I lure them into a false sense of security by painting them, then CHOMP. Om nom nom. They taste better when taken by surprise ^_^

I did the brown in 10 min, magenta 20, then yellow and blue around 1 hour. It was really interesting seeing how I didn't really have to make the blueberry blue, and in fact looks better when I don't. In the yellow one, the light side is actually a cream color :) Definitely something I want to explore more.

Grapefruit

Grapefruit, gouache. It was really intimidating at first, but I had a lot of fun with it. The different textures and translucence of some areas was a lot of fun. Admittedly, I picked a relatively easy view this time. I'm definitely going to revisit citrus fruits :)

I need to work on simplifying. In all my paintings I spend too much time adding details, and speed paintings have always been a weakness of mine. I'm going to try to start doing a speed paint every day as a warm up. After a while, I want to try to do a series of the same object, using fewer brushstrokes in each version.

Stargazer lily

I think this is the stargazer lily... Its a type of lily anyway. Painted yesterday, gouache. I had background problems again :/ this is repainted from a deeper blue. I think I'll try citrus next, I love all the old renaissance paintings of peeled lemons. I know I have a grapefruit around here somewhere...
